Season Ends - Playoffs Begin

Another regular season comes to a close and congrats go out to Coach Rick Rodrick's Iowa PIK Acres, who compiled a Raves Division and league best record of 11-4-1. We also congratulate Steve Rodrick's Minnesota Northboars who's 9-7 record squeaked past the Sycamore Ons on a total points tiebreaker to capture the Rants Division crown.
The playoffs begin (this THURSDAY) and if you follow this link:

Vagaries and the H-word

Week 10 in the CSFA was a memorable one. The vagaries are shadowy things that tempt and tease and corrupt the mind until you're starting people that shouldn't be in the NFL, much less on your fantasy team. This week, they showed up with a vengeance in two games particularly.

The Iowa PIK Acres are a team of destiny. If they picked up Jeff George right now, he'd go to the pro bowl. This week, Rick scored 81 points with just 1 point from his receivers. It went like this, Thomas Jones-20, Maurice Jones-Drew-19 and from the bench, Brandon Jones, er, Jacobs-14. These 3 running backs are the 3rd, 4th and 5th best running backs, respectively, in the league. Tell me you predicted that at the beginning of the year and you're either Kreskin or a damn good lier.

More important than Coach Rodrick's ability to pull double digit scoring running backs out of his backside linebacker; however, was his opponent this week. Casey's Crusaders are the third highest scoring franchise in the CSFA. They play there hearts out for coach Leo. They downright love him, even though he gives all his halftime speeches with his pants down. This week the Crusaders scored the second largest number of points. Only problem is, see above. Coach Bacino has been plagued his entire career in the CSFA with these kind of thing. I think it might be explained by this year's team motto, "It's gonna happen" This smacks of h****s in the worst way. Nothing is for sure in the CSFA and the vagaries know this and want to make sure you do too. If Coach Rodrick ran the crusaders, you can bet the motto would read something like this, "It might happen someday if we're really lucky because we're really not that good and when we win it's just because we started the right guys by accident and it'll never happen again, really."

And now for something completely different..

The Minnesota Northboars have done something right OR the Hell Fire really pissed somebody off. Tied at 21 going into Monday night, the Northboars needed 1 point to win. The Hell Fire were done and the Boars had rookie running back Tim Hightower to go. Piece of cake ...or not so much. The rookie running back was really just a back the whole night because there just wasn't much running happening. With 8:21 left in the game, Hightower catches a 5 yd pass to give him 53 yards and the point to win. Hurrah! With 2:12 left, he adds a yd rushing to pad his total to 54. At the two minute warning, another handoff to Hightower for a MINUS 4 yds, giving him exactly 50 for the game. Luckily, San Francisco managed to run the clock out and not give Mr. Hightower another chance to go below 50. I believe the Northboars were able to pull out the victory because I slept through the entire 4th quarter and the vagaries like it better when they can see the misery as it happens.
